BET’s Sunday Best Recap For July 21, 2013

I have heard of Sunday Best before but I never actually sat down to watch it. Matter of fact, I don’t even watch shows like American Idol or X Factor. I am aware of Donnie McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin and CeCe Winans since many of my family members are deep in Christianity and a few of my uncles are pastors. This July 21 episode of Sunday Best kicked off with a performance from Fantasia. She rocked the house, setting up the sounds of gospel that was to be heard throughout the rest of the show.

This episode was a continuation from last week, where twenty singers sing their hearts out and only ten move on forward in the competition. Last week, ten gospel singers took the stage and this week, ten more went up to rock the house. This week, Leecee Lewis, Terrell Hall, Tuku Gaye, Tasha Paige Lockhart, John Jackson, Q’fia Rollis, Odelle Bunton Jr., Joshua Drum, Matrea Bailey, and Renold Junior Johnson took the stage to prove their worth to be their Sunday Best. Terrel Hall was told that he could’ve gone further with his vocals, while Leecee had a unique sound, though Judge Donnie McClurkin said that her vocals were all over the place.

As each singer took the stage, the judges, McClurkin, Yolanda Adams, and CeCe Winans, were critical to the majority of them. Tuku was told that her performance wasn’t her best, John Jackson was told that his performance wasn’t up to par and that his song took control over him.

Of the ten singers who sung tonight, Leecee, Tuku, Tamika, and John were sent home. The ten singers moving on to perform next week on Sunday Best are: Q’Fia, Odelle, Paula, Tyler, Renold Junior, Jamal, Joshua, Terrell, David, Tasha.

This was my introduction to Sunday Best and I look forward to see who will win.
