The Return of West Coast Hip Hop: From The West Side With Love

Since Tupac’s death in the fall of 1996, their have only been two rappers who have made a serious dent on the charts from the west coast: The Game and Snoop Dogg. Yes, Will I. AM and the Black Eyed Peas started off as a hip-hop act before they added Fergie but they popped and they popped and they popped…

In my opinion southern California has four of the best mc’s in the game and the West Coast is poised for a return to their glory days.

But, my only question is “What is the West Waiting on?”

Kendrick Lamar

The Compton native who recently signed a joint venture with Interscope is argubably the best pure lyricist since Nas. Point blank period, I have never heard someone spit like Kendrick, ever.

Nipsey Hussle

Young Nipsey is the soul of the streets in Los Angeles hip-hop right now. After linking up with Cinematic Music Group he dropped The Marathon and The Marathon Continues which is the most complete mixtape I have heard since So Far So Gone or Orange Juice and Kush.

Dom Kennedy

After dropping From the Westside with Love 2 last year, I thought the Leimert Park Legend would finally get his well deserved spot among hip-hop’s elite. However a lack of commercially successfully materially and a lack of visibility is hurting Dom. If he can ever make it over the hump and release more music than the one summer mixtape a year we are accustomed to, who knows? In my opinion, it’s now or never for DopeitsDom….

Nicki Minaj and Drake are the biggest artists signed to YMCMB/Cashmoney, but Tyga Man will be the next big thing, period. Eventhough, his debut album Careless World did fairly well in terms of sells. His singles “Rack City” and “Faded” have the streets on smash and it’s just a matter of months before he really pops..
