All leading up to the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 out November 5. Right now, I present to you the most interesting facts on The Slim Shady LP.
•Though The Slim Shady LP is the first album by Eminem under the Aftermath label, he had released an album years earlier entitled Infinite. It only managed to sell 1,000 copies when released in 1996.
•After selling such a minute number of copies of Infinite, Eminem gave birth to his alter ego Slim Shady as a way to vent his frustrations.
•When he created his alter ego, he recorded The Slim Shady EP, an extended play that caught the eye of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.
•Eminem was afraid of being star struck when he first met Dr. Dre. However, he became more and more comfortable around him as time went by.
•Most of the album was recorded when Eminem was on ecstasy.
•Eminem was sued by his mother Deborah Nelson for $10 million for the line I just found out my mom does more dope than I do on the first single, My Name Is. After two years she was awarded $25,000 but only pocketed $1,600 after legal fees.
•In Brain Damage, Eminem refers to a DeAngelo Bailey as a bully of his. Turns out, the guys exists and sued Em for $1 million. The case was ultimately dismissed.
•The album won a Grammy for best Rap Album.
•In 2003, the album was ranked 273 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest albums of all time.
