Johnny CashWith Out Among the Stars out this past Tuesday, this weekend we celebrate the life of Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash has influenced more musicians than any of the artists today. With a very large catalog of music and more [possibly] on the way and a cult following, Cash is quite possibly bigger now in death than he was when he was still alive. Here are ten interesting facts about the legend, the Man in Black, Johnny Cash.


JohnnyCash500x500•Johnny Cash starred in his own self-titled show on ABC. The show ran from 1969 to 1971.


Joaquin-Phoenix-as-Johnny-Cash-walk-the-line-22777646-1024-768•Walk The Line, the biopic about the life of Johnny Cash, won Joaquin Phoenix a Grammy. He, along with Reese Witherspoon, performed his own vocals.


johnnycash•His parents named his J. R. Cash because they couldn’t come up with a name.


Johnny-Cash-9240610-1-402•When he joined the Air Force he wasn’t allowed to use J. R. as his name so he used John R. Cash. This would later become his stage name when he signed with Sun Records.


johnny-cash-1210•Met his first wife while deployed with the Air Force. After his discharge in 1954, he married Vivian Liberto and had four children. They were divorced in 1966

Johnny recorded two live albums while performing in prisons. The prisons he performed in were Folsom Prison and San Quentin.


John Cash•Johnny was a good friend with Billy Graham and they even co-wrote a film, The Gospel Road.

Johnny-Cash1•Before she died, his wife told him to continue working. June Carter Cash died on May 15, 2003. Cash would go on to record 60+ songs in a four month period before he passed. They say he died from a broken heart.
