DJ-Rashad2This past weekend music, mainly the hip-hop industry, lost another legend. Just under a month ago hip-hop, and the world, lost DJ Frankie Knuckles due to complications from type-II diabetes. This time around we lost footwork pioneer DJ Rashad. DJ Rashad’s expertise was in footwork, a hyper form of dance music with chopped up loops from hip-hop, pop, and R&B. Though he’s been in the game for over twenty years, Rashad was gaining traction with mainstream audiences only recently, according to People, with the release of his fifth album, Double Cup, which released late last year. She’s been signed to TDE for about a year now, who include other artists like Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad and more; SZA’s sound doesn’t compare to her label mates. scarfaceScarface is the film that every ‘wannabe gangsta’ watches and studies like it’s apart of their curriculum. Scarface, if you neglected to see it, is the story about the rise and fall of a Cuban immigrant turned cocaine dealer and all around bad guy. The film made Pacino an even bigger name with his portrayal as Tony Montana. The film runs for about three hours but that doesn’t phase anyone who watches it; if it comes on TV you can bet that you’re going to be sitting there enjoying the rollercoaster ride of the De Palma classic.

Unfortunately, DJ Frankie Knuckles passed away on March 31, 2014. He’s considered the grandfather of house music, pioneering the music since the 1980s in Chicago. He passed away due to complications from Type-II diabetes at the young age of 59 years. To honor his life, here are seven facts about the Godfather of house music.
