Rapper Beanie Sigel, notably known for being shot in December of 2014 (and for his rhyming skills, obviously) has been hospitalized once more following a shooting this Thursday morning. News broke this afternoon that rapper Sigel, born Dwight Grant 1974, was taken into Englewood Hospital and Medical Center this morning with what sources close to the rapper are saying is a “doctor appointment.”
Rapping and acting are art forms that need some sort of training. You need to be able to entertain and you need to be interesting. Some actors eventually go off into rapping and turn it into a very lucrative career and vice versa for rappers who explore rapping. Not every rapper/actor is great at what they do but some are fantastic. SoSoActive brings you the five best (and worst) rapper/actors.
Recently, a list came forth detailing the extensive vocabulary of hip-hop artists. What made it interesting was the level of detail that went into constructing the list from the amount of unique words used in all of their works from EPs to LPs to even mixtapes. Matt Daniels constructed the very detailed list by using the first 35,000 words from Moby Dick and 35,000 words from the first seven plays written by William Shakespeare. According to Daniels, words like pimp, pimps, and pimping are counted individually as unique words; also no words are counted twice. But what does all this mean and should you even care about Common’s, Jay Z’s, or Talib Kweli’s extensive vocabulary?
After 2 Chainz released his cookbook, another rapper is in line with releasing a cookbook. Jeffrey Atkins, also known as Ja Rule, is reportedly writing a cookbook based on microwaving foods. The rapper is basing all of the recipes he’s writing on the foods he cooked while in prison for two years.

J. Cole may be the smartest rapper in the game right now; I mean literally. He’s a communications major and has two studio albums under his belt (you can read the review for Born Sinner here) with countless mixtapes. He’s signed to Jay-Z’s record label and admires 2Pac and Nas as his idols but here are ten facts you may not have known about J. Cole.
He’s known for his signature rough sound and for the occasional bought with the law. He’s DMX, and we’ve come up with a list of 10 Interesting Facts about DMX that you might not know…
There’s no doubt that DMX sounds much cooler than Earl Simmons, but do you know what it actually stands for? DMX took his name in tribute to a 80s instrument known as the Oberheim DMX drum machine.
DMX’s first two albums debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts which is hardly a surprise. What is surprising though is the fact that they were released in the same year which makes DMX the 2nd rapper in history to accomplish that feat. The other was Tupac Shakur.
That last fact was pretty impressive, but that was actually the tip of the iceberg. DMX’s first 5 albums all debuted at number one… just let that sink in for a minute. Five consecutive number one albums and he would have had six, but missed the top spot by only a hundred sales.
Here’s and interesting DMX Fact…Any fan of DMX’s knows he’s a true believer, but did you know he’s done a bit of preachin’? Yup, and he even cut a Gospel album that’s finished and “should” be released sometime in the near future.
It’s not a DMX article if there isn’t mention of beef. DMX’s main beef was with Ja Rule back in the day when the two waged a war of words after DMX accused Ja Rule of stealing his signature style. Dark Man X’s latest “beef” was reportedly with none other than Drake when he said he didn’t like anything about the Canadian including the way he walks and his haircut.
We’ve been nice, now it’s time for the fun stuff. DMX is no stranger to jail, and since 1998 he’s been arrested for a wide, wide variety of things including a stabbing, various assaults, crack, half a dozen weapons charges, reckless driving, pot possession, probation violation, and theft. I’m sure we’ve left a few out, but you get the picture.
Everyone knows DMX wiles out from time to time, and his trouble behind the wheel has been well documented. He’s been arrested at least 3 times for reckless driving with the latest incident coming in 2011 for doing 102 mph in a 65 mph zone… and he was driving on a suspended license.
DMX has been in some pretty good flicks (Belly was our favorite) over the years, but did you know he was going to do a TV show? In 2010 he did 4 months out of a 6 month stint and filming started the day he was released to show his road to recovery. Well, DMX got arrested 3 weeks later so the pilot never got off the ground.
Our absolute favorite DMX moment has to come from 2004 when DMX got popped at JFK International airport. What where the charges you ask? Criminal mischief, criminal impersonation, cocaine possession, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing whatever in the hell that is. That’s not all… we forgot to add driving under the influence while claiming to be a federal agent and attempting to carjack a vehicle.
That last one was pretty intense, but this one’s pretty funny. In 2003 DMX was arrested for using foul language during a concert at Saint Kitts and Nevis. Supposedly he signed a contract before the show that said he wouldn’t curse which he promptly broke. We’re guessing he was released quickly, but he did have to pay up on a $376 dollar bail.

“Beastie Boys” is a pretty dope track dedicated to the legendary MCA of the Beastie Boys.
