Psy Avoids Becoming a One-Hit Wonder

0 2301

After releasing a song that quickly became a musical phenomenon (even though no one understood the words), Psy was poised to become the next biggest flop.  The one-hit wonder from South Korea.  No one was really sure how Gangam Style was able to sweep the world in a matter of days, but it didn’t really matter.  Everyone had heard Gangam Style.  It was a viral success and even wormed its way into television shows, like Saturday Night Live.   So, when Psy released his latest song Gentleman no one really expected it to surpass his previous hit, but it’s well on its way.

Gentleman currently sits at Number 5 on the top 100 Billboard Chart and has achieved a Guinness World Record for for the most viewed video online in 24 hours, surpassing the Kony video.  While it took Gangam Style two months to gain 100 million views, Gentleman has reached that threshold in a mere four days.

But why is Psy so popular even when most people can’t understand his lyrics?  His talent manager says it’s because Psy is just fun.  He represents a good time and that’s the sort of reaction we have when listening to Psy.  At this rate, Psy is poised to continue his rise to the top.  And I, for one, am excited to see where he goes next.
