Music Week in Review: French Montana and Kid Ink

The 2014-year of music releases looks very promising, however, like every year we will have wait. Music releases are always scarce in January. No one wants to drop an album after the Christmas season. The first couple of releases of the New Year were nothing special but here it is.

Kid Ink My Own Lane

The problem with his album title is he happens to be riding in a crowded lane. There’s nothing original about his album and nothing really stands out. It’s very radio friendly, but nothing you haven’t heard before. His first two lead singles are carried by appearances from Chris Brown and the Kid is a space filler. Not a good start to the year. It’s a label’s album not much artistry at all.

Score – 5 of 10

French Montana Coke Boys 4 (mixtape)

French Montana’s album came up just short of my top 25 last year but it’s a toss up because he probably should have made it, I’ll say he’s number 26. As for the fourth installment of Coke Boys, it’s an opportunity to promote his crew of the same title Coke Boys. Many good guest appearances from Jada Kiss, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and more. It’s hit and miss with many good songs and several space fillers in-between. It’s enough to keep the fan base anticipating the new album. It starts slow but picks up in middle.

Score – 7 of 10

Not a great week for music but it is to be expected this time of year. The quality and quantity will pick up with each week as we move forward but for now this will have to do.

Marcus J. Clark is not a human being, but an experience. An energy that revolves around art, music, comic books and Film. A Gift to the free world containing supernatural artistic powers to transport every open mind to the contradiction that is The Savage Wonderland.
