Mikrosonic makes some killer Android apps, and SPC – Music Sketchpad 2 is one of our favorites. The app lets sequence, sample and program beats from your phone or tablet, and it’s truly one of the best Music Mixers around.
SPC Music Sketchpad 2 has a very slick multi-touch user interface that gives you 16 pads to produce your beats. You can select as many pads as you like, and each pad has its own individual settings. You can adjust the volume, steps, step length, beats, and even assign different FX. You can also adjust the gain, pan, attack and decay or normalize, reverse and cut clips. Any patterns you make can by copied and pasted; you can also upload and record your own loops and sounds. Here are a few other key highlights of the app…
• Step sequencer for each of the 16 pads; Every step sequencer with up to 64 steps
• Keyboard for melodic composition
• Record loops in sync with quantization and overdub function
• Slicer for recombining loop elements
• Real-time controllable effects
• OpenSL integration for lower latency
• Special rack view in portrait mode for 10-inch tablets
• Up to 16 steps volume and pan envelope for loops
To say SPC – Music Sketchpad 2 is loaded would be a bit of an understatement, as it’s one of the most full-featured Music Mixers we’ve seen and we’ve only scratched the surface of what it can do in this review. The app really does it all, and it’s even optimized for phones and tablets of the 7 or 10 inch variety.
The SPC Music Sketchpad is one of the best Mixers around, and even novices can mix tracks with relative ease. I’ve never mixed a track in my life, but I ended up playing with Music Sketchpad 2 for hours on end and actually made a few decent tracks before my battery died. There is a free version of the app you can try, but it’s ad-supported and limited somewhat. The full version on the other hand, gives you everything we’ve covered along with live session recording and exporting; it also lets you save your scenes and recordings. That last part is important as you can’t save your tracks with the Demo version, so you’ll definitely want to pick up the full version for $4.99 if you like the app. Both versions of SPC – Music Sketchpad 2 can be found on Google Play.Google+
