NBC’s The Voice is one of my favorite shows, and the blind auditions are something I always look forward to. It’s always fun to see new talent, and Melanie Martinez has been one of the standouts I’ve seen in the blind auditions so far.
On Monday night she performed her rendition of Britney Spears’s Toxic, and she definitely got some attention as Cee Lo, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine all turned their chairs around. Needless to say her rendition of Toxic was definitely not Toxic and it sounded unique and original to this listeners ears. Did I mention she played a tambourine with her feet while strumming the guitar and singing?
Some of the singers on The Voice have been around for a while, and it’s always a lot of fun to do a little digging and see who’s done what before they hit The Voice’s stage. Apparently, Melanie Martinez has quite a few songs on her YouTube Channel, but other than winning a high-school talent contents that’s about it. Well I’ve got a strong feeling that’s all about to change. I was convinced on Monday that she has what it takes to make it far in the competition, but after seeing a few of her simple YouTube videos I’m convinced of it. The girl is very talented, and her voice has a unique and haunting quality about it that’s bound to get people’s attention.
I do fear a little for her in the Battle Rounds as she could be overpowered depending on whose she’s grouped with and the coaches’ song of choice. That being said, Adam Levine knows his music so she’s definitely in good hands on his team. It will be fun to see how she’s does in the competition from here on out, and if you want to hear more of Melanie now you can check out the video below or hit up her YouTube channel.
