Everyone has been anticipating Kendrick Lamar’s newest album ever since good kid, m.A.A.d. city dropped in October of 2012. The album received much critical acclaim and was touted to win a few Grammys or so until Macklemore swooped in and stole the Rap Album of the Year award. With the release of i a few months back, it seems Lamar may be back on track to release a new album.

According to Music-News.com and Hot 97, Lamar quipped that i is for “the homies that’s in the penitentiary right now.” He goes on to say “I also wrote a record for these kids that come up to my show with these slashes on their wrists saying they don’t want to live no more.” If good kid, m.A.A.d. city wasn’t enough of a cautionary tale about living in a modernized ghetto section of Compton, Lamar’s latest effort is going to appeal to that large sliver of angst-y teens. While not a complete change from gkmc, he seems to be tackling another concept album, but that’s just my speculation.

Lamar’s first official album, Section.80, was a loose concept album with some anti-government lyrics and cautionary tales of women in the ghetto; think Sing About Me.

Speaking of Macklemore, the Compton rapper shed his opinion on the photo that Macklemore texted Lamar. He felt that the gesture of making the text public was “uncalled for” though he understood the gesture. “I think for confirmation from the world, he probably felt he had to put it out there, which he didn’t need to do.” I have to agree with him on that issue.

So tell me people, are you excited for a new Kendrick Lamar album? It’s long overdue in my opinion and it can’t get here soon enough. Leave your answers in the comments below.
