Jaden Smith has built a reputation online with his fanatical tweets and philosophical views on life. “How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t?” Jaden tweeted in May of last year. He’s had some songs in the past, following in the footsteps of his father, but has been mainly focused on his movie career with abysmal flicks like After Earth. Today, Jaden, using his sister, Willow’s, SoundCloud account released a brand new song that oozes Childish Gambino and Drake.

Little did I know that Jaden released a mixtape last year with guest artists like Kid Cudi and Willow Smith.

With that said, the song, titled Trophy V6, has a 90s vibe with the beat, almost like it was produced by Q-Tip. While only being two minutes in length, Jaden manages to spit some interesting lines regarding drinking and suicide, but in a playful way. His flow sounds very borrowed from the likes of Childish Gambino and Drake. His influences clearly shine through. What’s most interesting is that Jaden’s father, the incomparable Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will, has a slight influence over the young rapper. The almost cartoonish lyrics and clean language shows that maybe Jaden is following in the footsteps on his über popular father.

Here, listen to the song yourself:

What do you think about the song? I personally don’t like his voice; it hasn’t cracked completely yet and sounds awkward. Other than that, I enjoyed it. If you’re interested in his other work, he also released another song earlier this week, Blue Ocean V19. That one I’m not too fond of.

Both songs are set to released on his new mixtape, Cool Tape Vol. 2
