Summer is here! Can I get an AMEN?! Who else thought that winter would never end?
I love summer, I do. I love the nice weather, ICE CREAM, bike rides, swimming , and all the other great things that come with summer. But I despise constantly feeling sweaty, getting sunburnt once I step outside, and shaving. I HATE SHAVING.
I mean honestly, why? WHY? Shaving is the worst. No matter how meticulous I am about shaving my legs, it never fails that I have some missed spot that everyone can see once the sun shines on me. Oh, and being super pale is great in summer. Reflectiveness would be my superpower if I had been blessed in life to be a superhero. I could blind all my enemies with my legs in the sun.
With summer comes something I loathe: BIKINI SEASON. I hate bikini season more than I hate sauerkraut on a hot day. The constant posts on social media about getting in shape for bikini season make me hate myself as I scroll through my news feed while chowing down on some cookies.
Never have I ever felt good enough about myself to don a bikini in public. That doesn’t mean that I don’t own one, because I do, but it’s hidden away in the deep, dark abyss that is my closet. If I wear it, it’s beneath a tank top that I’ll only take off if forced at gunpoint. Even then, I’d probably keep it on.
I just don’t understand the neurotic rush to getting in shape for summer. Shouldn’t that be a constant state of mind of ours? Shouldn’t we want to be healthy in ALL seasons of the year and not just to show off our scantily clad bodies?
I am in no way in tiptop shape, but I do try to make an effort to NOT eat all the cookies in a box and to make healthier choices. Why should I try to better myself only to put myself in the teeniest bathing suit known to man? I WON’T DO IT. We shouldn’t be subjecting ourselves to scrutinizing every inch of our bodies because, guess what, no one is perfect. You shouldn’t have to have the flattest stomach and best bikini body to feel good about yourself. “Pretty” comes in all shapes and sizes.
This summer I will be embracing the warm weather with my WINTER body. (Minus the hairy legs, much to my dismay.) That’s right, I will not be starving myself to look better in a bathing suit, nor will I be spending hours every day working myself to the bone to look more flattering in a bikini. I will don my bathing suit and let my imperfect body feel the warmth of the sun. Let’s take a stand against “bikini season.” Get healthy for the right reasons and take pride in yourself because YOU are beautiful.Google+
