Don’t Call it a Comeback

Nicki Minaj shows up and shows out this week and it’s only Tuesday.

Yesterday Nicki released the highly anticipated single “Anaconda” which was only the icing on the cake. This past weekend Beyonce released her the remix to her song “Flawless” that includes Minaj as well.

One word…BRAVO! The rapper is back. Since the success of “Superbass” the star’s career blasted off into a pop direction and although many appreciate the alternate styles she attempted, she is serious this time around.

The rapper stated about her more natural appearance, that she wanted to be taken more serious.  According to Hellobeautiful.com, Nicki took it as far as firing her glam squad.

The website states, “Nicki is desperate to be taken seriously as an artist,” said a source. “She’s fired her long-standing hairdresser who has been responsible for some of her crazy hairstyles over the years. She’s also fired her stylist.

Whether it’s true or not she’s definitely toned down her pop personality and turned up her lyrical aesthetics.

Her Anaconda single takes it back to the 90’s rap style with a sample of Sir Mix-A-lot’s “Baby Got Back”.  She flows with an old school pace until mid chorus then she’s back to 2014 fast rapping Minaj.  The Anaconda single can be found here along with lyrics and a video snippet.

As far as the Flawless remix, can we take a moment of silence and let the very thought of the existence of this collabo sink in?  Yea, a Nicki and Beyonce’ song actually exists and it is everything!  Beyonce’ of course slayed the track alone and Nicki’s verse was the icing on the cake for Nick fans.

Nicki raps, “It’s every hood n***a dream, fantasizing ‘bout Nicki and B…”.   She also goes to say a lot of other explicit yet raw lyrics to further her reputation as the current queen of rap.

When you get two women who are the best in what they do reqardless if you’re a fan of either, you can’t help but fall in love with this song.  It can be heard here.

So far, this “natural” Nicki has successfully done her job to convince people she’s serious about this rap ‘ish.  I wonder if her current competition Iggy Azalea has anything to do with her wanting to step her game up.

What do you think?
