Digster Spotify App Review: 2.5 out of 5
Digster is one of the many Spotify Apps that we will be reviewing this week. The app is basically a playlist machine. The playlists that I have added thus far have been “fairly relevant.” One of my favorite ones is Urban Classics which was like going into a time machine for me listening to songs like 2Pac’s “California Love'” and “O.P.P.” by Naughty by Nature.
The app has a few cool options that generate playlists for life activities such as working out, relaxing, taking road trips, partying or even romancing. In addition, there are artist playlists available by some of your favorite acts like Lana Del Rey and Mary J. Blidge to vibe on. However, most of these playlists did seem pretty generic almost Pandoraish in selection.
Digster does has a live option called Digster Karaoke with tons of pop instrumentals for you American Idol hopefuls to flex your vocals to. Surprisingly, Digster Karaoke does have a wide range of tracks from country to rap so you definitely should be able to find something to gig on. One of the downfalls of this app is, some of the newly created playlists don’t have album covers which is a huge turn off for a visual guy like me.
I think Digster is a very solid app for the Spotify ecosystem, but it fails to deliver anything significant outside of decent playlists. In terms of music discovery, I did find a few new songs that I never heard of but that’s about it.
One of the most irrelevant playlists that I saw was the Digster Celebrate Black History Month, which included strip club anthems like Tyga’s “Rack City” and “Dance Ass” from Big Sean. I was definitely expecting to hear something more inspirational than stripper music for Black History month. I guess strippers need to know their history too? This is the problem when you have a machine and someone that lacks cultural awareness making recommendations.
Overall the Digster Spotify app is a mediocre effort, and it def needs some more tweaking like adding more relevant playlists. Also, I would love for the annoying recommended playlists, which pop up at the top of the app,to be removed. I give this Spotify app a rating of 2.5 out of 5Google+
