1 9449

Formed in 1990, Destiny’s Child is one of the greatest female R&B acts of all-time. They’ve sold over 50 million albums worldwide.  They’re known as one of the most successful musical trios of all time.  Destiny’s Child helped to skyrocket individual members to stardom, most notably Beyonce Knowles.  But where has the rest of Destiny’s Child ended up and what are they doing with their careers?

Beyonce Knowles

Destiny's Child

After announcing their group hiatus in 2001 to allow each member to pursue a solo career, Beyonce wasted no time jumping into the industry.  In 2002, she appeared in Austin Powers in Goldmember as Foxxy Cleopatra.  To promote the movie, she released the song Work it Out, which she later included on her debut album Dangerously in Love.

Dangerously in Love went four times platinum, and is still Beyonce’s top selling album.  She was asked in 2004 to perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl.  Beyonce has sold over 13 million albums in the US and won 16 Grammys , making her the third most honored female artist.

As far as her personal life, Beyonce was first rumored to be in a relationship with artist Jay-Z in the year 2002 when she was featured on his song Bonnie & Clyde.  The two remained discreet about their relationship, even keeping their marriage in 2008 a secret until a few weeks later.  On January 7, 2012, Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first child into the world, Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyonce will be performing during half-time at the 2013 Super Bowl and will star as Queen Tara in the upcoming film Epic.

Kelly Rowland

Destiny's Child

During Destiny’s Child’s hiatus, Rowland released her first solo album Simply Deep in 2002.  This album featured her worldwide number-one song Dilemma that she collaborated on with Nelly. Rowland went on to win four Grammys, two Billboard Music Awards, and a Soul Train Award.  Like Beyonce, Rowland also pursued an acting career.  She appeared in films such as Freddy vs. Jason, The Seat Filler, and Think Like a Man.  In 2009, she was a host on Bravo’s The Fashion Show and was on the judging panel for the UK’s X Factor for one season.

Rowland announced her engagement to Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys in May of 2004, but the couple did not last.  After previously gushing about her relationship to the media, she swore to keep her private life private.

Rowland’s fourth album Year of the Woman is scheduled to be released in 2013.

Michelle Williams

Destiny's ChildDuring their hiatus, Michelle Williams also released a solo album entitled Heart to Yours.  The album more of an urban contemporary gospel track.  It placed at number 2 on Billboard’s Gospel Album charts when it was first released, but later rose to the top spot.  Unlike her former group members, Williams’ acting debut was not on screen but on stage.  In 2003, she became the first and only member of Destiny’s Child to make a Broadway by taking the title role in the show Aida.  In 2007, she joined the Chicago-based tour of The Color Purple.  In 2010, she came back to Broadway for a seven-week run in Chicago.

Like Rowland, Williams is very secretive about her personal life.

Williams is set to release her third gospel album in January and is currently working on a clothing line according to her twitter.

Farrah Franklin

Destiny's Child

Farrah Franklin, along with Michelle Williams, replaced original members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett after a dispute with their manager.  She had originally performed as a back-up dancer in the video for Bills, Bills, Bills.  After the dispute, she was seamlessly introduced via the video Say My Name.  After 6 months with the group, she was fired for missing several important dates and having no desire to continue with the group.

In an attempt to pursue a solo career, she subsequently signed with and dropped several record labels.  She attempted an acting career by appearing in The Brewster Project and an indy film Eyes of Darkness.  She hoped to release her album in 2010, but remains unsigned and the album remains unreleased.

LaTavia Roberson

Destiny's Child

An original member of Destiny’s Child, LaTavia Roberson left the group in 2000 after  conflict with their manager, Matthew Knowles.  After the split, she and other Destiny’s Child member, LeToya Luckett, attempted to create a different group by the name Anjel, but were unsuccessful.  In 2005, she was invited to join the group Xscape, but declined.  A year later, Roberson was arrested for a DWI.  She is now reported to have gotten her life back on track.

Roberson made an appearance in E!’s documentary series Boulevard of Broken Dreams and discussed her time spent with Destiny’s Child.  In 2010, she appeared on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, but was often criticized for being too bitter.

At the present moment, Roberson is focusing on a modeling career, as well as waiting to find the perfect publisher for her book.

LeToya Luckett

Destiny's Child

LeToya Luckett left Destiny’s Child in 2000 along with Roberson.  After Anjel did not succeed, she joined Noontime, an Atlanta-based management company and produced a demo that was picked up by Capitol Records in 2003 and released a self-titled album in 2006.  It went platinum in December of that year.  Other than Beyonce, she is the only member of Destiny’s Child to have an album debut at number one on Billboard’s charts.  She was star of the movie Preacher’s Kid and starred in the 2010 movie The Killers.

She was once involved with rapper Slim Thug, with whom she collaborated with on several pieces, but the couple is no longer together.

Luckett has been working on a youtube series entitled Love, Life, & Music while simultaneously working on her third album.

Solange Knowles

Destiny's ChildWhile not an exclusive member of Destiny’s Child, Solange replaced a dancer at the age of 15 and later replaced Kelly Rowland when she sustained an injury.  Her first venture into the music industry was in 2001 when she performed the title theme for the animated series The Proud Family.  Her debut album Solo Star received mixed criticisms, but managed to debut at number 49 on the Billboard 200.  Solange also ventured into modeling and film.  She made an appearance in Johnson Family Vacation and was announced as the 2011 face of Rimmel London with Zooey Deschanel.

In 2004 at the young age of 17, Solange married Daniel Smith and gave birth to their son Daniel Jr. nine months later.  After their son’s birth, they moved to Idaho where Daniel could continue his college education.  In 2007, the couple split and Solange moved to Los Angeles with her son.

Her EP True will be available for release in 2013.
