The Android platform and Google Play hit a great milestone a few days ago as we topped 25 Billion downloads from the Google Play store. Let that sink in for a minute… 25 billion. In honor of the milestone Google decided to throw a little sale involving games, apps, movies, music, and books. As Sosoactive is all about the music we’re going to take a look at the music end of the sale called Google’s 25 Albums That Changed the World.
The 25 Billion downloads sale covers a wide range of artists and genres. If you’re into Rap or R&B they’ve got classic Public Enemy, Lil’ Wayne, Makaveli, Kanye, Drake, Snoop, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, and D’Angelo with MIA, and the Roots thrown in for good measure. The rest of the albums & artists vary from folks like Bob Marley, The Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonders, Beach Boys, Coldplay, John Coltrane, Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Weezer, The Supremes, Patsy Cline, O Brother Where Art Though, Joss Stone, and Kraftwerk. Whew… The prices on all these range from between $3.99 and $5.99 although after looking at the list I just made I think the sale should be renamed to “25 Popular Albums” instead of the whole world changing thing.
The 25 Albums That Changed The World sale is a solid one, but whether some of the 25 albums picked deserve to be on the list is up for debate. I can see the Beach Boys making the list, Patsy Cline, The Supremes as they are widely considered legends, but M.I.A. or Rihanna…seriously? Either way the prices are good on a few things like Pet Sounds, Mothers Milk, and Brown Sugar while the rest fall into the $5.99 range which isn’t too great but not horrible either. They did do a good with the selection though as I can honestly say there are some great albums put up whether they changed the world or not. The sale only lasts until tomorrow so if any of the albums mentioned tickle your fancy you better hurry on over to Google Play and pick them up while you can.Google+
