Twitter is an amazing resource for celebrities. Celebrity twitters can be used to promote their newest film or album and give fans exclusive information about their tours or whatever they feel is important to know. But what type of celebrity twitter user does the media benefit most from?
When it comes to celebrity twitter users, there are about two ends of the spectrum. One one end, you have Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber has a massive twitter following with over 32,000,000 followers, and it’s not surprising. Beliebers are everywhere. But Justin Bieber’s twitter offers nothing more than music updates for his fans and uncomfortably strange tweets, such as “i see u “.
In contrast, Chris Brown brings the tabloid drama and controversy straight to his twitter page. He has no shame in lashing out at fellow celebritys, like Drake, and celebrities have no issue lashing out at him. But after a twitter feud with comedian Jenny Johnson where she publicly criticized him after his arrest for assaulting Rihanna.
While I condone Brown’s cyberbullying-like twitter antics, he may have found a link between twitter and publicity. With twitter scandal after twitter scandal, Chris Brown’s name became a household form of gossip. No one cares about Justin Bieber’s infantile statements; they want to know who is going to have it out with Chris Brown next.
Fortunately for us, Chris Brown has returned to twitter. And while he’s managed to stay uninvolved in any quarrels, how long will this last?
