According to Wikipedia a troll is is “a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community.” –Wiki
With Hip-Hop being as dramatic as the WWE, it has a long history of pre-internet trolling. Before the internet existed, people like C. Delores Tucker and Reverend Calvin Butts became household names crusading against “so-called gangsta-rap.” When I say trolls, I am referring to those that use controversy and discord to keep their careers relevant online and offline.. Tupac is my favorite rapper of all-time, but he mastered the art of trolling in mid 1990’s. In 2014, trolling is being used to build careers and develop multi-million dollar brands. Here are the top 5 trolls that exist in Hip-Hop. Troll Life Baby…
Curtis Jackson spares no one. Ask Buck, Jay-Z, Diddy, Camron, Ross and em..
Charlamagne Tha God
The co-host of the Breakfast Club has aspirations of being Hip-Hop’s Howard Stern. If the troll god continues to bless this “humble” South Carolina native, he is very well on his way. Ask Drizzy and Yeezy about him..
After the classic interview with Killa Cam, Bill has been trolling his way into urban culture one factor at a time.
Lil B AKA Base God
Three words: Fuck Kevin Durant
I would love to make this list into ten. I if you have suggestions, please leave a comment!
This week on Love & Hip Hop NYC some secrets come out,new characters are introduced, and we learn that you don’t have to be well-known or talented to be the best. Every cast member is the absolute best.
We find out that Amina is Peter Gunz’s secret wife. Secret wife. What!?. Yes, I said it even though Tara and Peter have two children and live together; Mr.Gunz is married, with a license and everything to Amina. Raising the question…Who is truly the other woman?
Rich Dollaz has an impromptu meeting with the “Best Rapper in NYC” Nya Li at her video shoot. She puts very eloquently that she could never be associated with Rich because he is a, “cornball”. Harsh words from a nobody, but still accurate.
Yandy, K. michelle, and Paris meet up and discuss love, money, and the new record label. Yandy decides to throw K. Michelle a welcome to NYC party where she “casually” plans to invite Tara and Amina (unaware that they were “Loving The Same Man”). On the night of Peter finds out that both women were invited and swoops in just in time to stop Amina from going in to the club and running her mouth about their low-down matrimony.
We get to meet a new couple of Erica Jane and some guy who wasn’t in the opening credits. They’re story line is common. She’s the baby’s mother and he’s an “underground rapper” the “Best in NYC” as one might expect. They’re trying to make it work, but he’s not even sure if the baby is his.
Tahiry and Joe are on rocky waters as usual.Erica Mena pops up somewhere in the episode somewhere, and Yandy displays some concern about getting the new label off the ground.
We’re all aware that LHHNYC is LHHATL’s uglier cousin, and yes it’s clear to see the repeating story lines being placed In front of the camera, but I think this season of LHHNYC might prove itself worthy of VH1’s reality tv dynasty.
Smallpools. A four piece band from Los Angeles, are the creators of a new indie-techno sound. Their first studio release, a self-titled EP, has been a huge success. It’s debut single, “Dreaming”, has been featured on video game soundtracks, TV premiers, and within just a few days of its release was number one on The Hype Machine. With Mike Kamerman on guitar, Joe Intile on bass, Beau Kuther playing drums, and Sean Scanlon letting loose some insane vocals, every track on their EP showcases the huge talents of all four of these guys.
The “Smallpools” EP, a fantastic piece of work, is a pop collage full of twisting parts. It hosts a plethora of fast bass lines and complicated guitar solos, usually accompanied by a incredibly excited tambourine. Beau Kuther deserves a standing ovation for the simply fantastic drum work done on this record.
The layered pop-rock campfire vocal and inspired lyrics take what would’ve been an exceptional set of instrumentals and turns it into a fantastic alt-rock record that is sure to have Smallpools name written in lights.
The “Smallpools” EP was released with RCA Records July 16, 2013. It is available for digital download here:

She’s the creator of hits like, “I Kissed a Girl” and “Teenage Dream”. She’s sold millions of records and has a style like no other. Her last album went double platinum in the U.S., and she was the visionary behind her worldwide “California Dreams Tour”. She’s pushed boundaries, broken records, and created a fan base across the globe. After taking a short break Katy Perry is back in the office and releasing singles leading to the October twenty-second release of her new record, “Prism”.
The first official single off her new album is entitled, “Roar”. An upbeat track about not being afraid to be yourself. With a back track that begins with staccato piano chords, tom drums, and synth sounds and grabs a guitar ensemble on its way into the chorus. It is easy to hear the fantastic mixing done on this record.
The next single released, “Dark Horse”, truly embodies its title. A record about how her love is both perfect and never to be crossed. Featuring Juicy J the track has an amazing set of beats. Somewhere in between a pop anthem and hip hop show-stopper.This song sports what is clearly hip hop back track, infused with synthesizers, pianos, and one outstanding snare drum. Juicy J’s verse is less than spectacular, but manages to get the point across (Katy Perry is not one to play with). An overall fantastic track with a major turnup factor.
Her third single called, “Walking on Air”, is a flashback to the 80’s. Katy with the help of some very ironic autotune sings about how her lover’s love takes her to new places. It’s track is literally a blast from the past, its background track is reminiscent of a European disco, and the sample they used sounded like it belonged in my mothers cd collection.
These songs are edgy, different, and are telling me that Katy Perry’s next album is sure to be a pop revelation.
