Here are the highlights from the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards:

Cypher MVP’s: Talib Kweli, E-40, Ab Soul and T.I.
Dopest Line: Talib Kweli – “I’m Frank Ocean at a Chic-Fil-A. I’ll never get served.”
Best Cypher Crews: Ruff Riders & The West Coast All-Star Crew

Performances: No Lie, the 2 Chainz performance of “Birthday Song” and seeing Diddy perform “Same Time” and “Wild Boy” MGK were two of the best performaces tonight. Diddy seems to be aging, but he let us know he is still one of the best Hip Hop performers of all-time as he took the stage during French Montana’s “Pop That.”

Rick Ross blessed us with a Supersized performance of “Hold Me Back” and “Let’s Talk” featuring the newest member of MMG, Omarion. Ross was in rare form rocking a Frank Lucas coat showing nothing but belly love.

I AM Hip-Hop Icon Award : Kendrick Lamar blessed Rakim “Allah” with the Hip-Hop Icon Award as he spit a spoken word introduction for the God MC. It was interesting to hear Marley Mal, Rza and Asap Rocky speak on Rakim’s impact on Hip Hop as the God accepted this “rare award.”

Chris Lighty Tribute: LL Cool J, Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, 50 Cent, Fat Joe played tribute to the fallen Hip Hop Icon, Chris Lighty. I forgot how deep the Violator family was until I saw Missy Elliot take the stage and hit us with her classic song “Get Ur Freak On.” The perforances from Tribe and Busta Rhymes shows how serious the the older generation of Hip Hop takes performaces and I hope the youngins in attendance were taking notes.

Take Notes….
