Nayvadius Cash, better known by his stage name Future, has gradually risen in the world of rap.  As the talented artist continues to climb to the top, here are some things you may not know about the Atlanta-born performer.

1. He has 4 children.

His first son was born in 2001 to a woman named Jessica Smith.  11 years later, he welcomed his newest son into the world this past December.

2. He and Ciara are an item.

After much spectacle and debate, Future finally admitted that he and singer, Ciara, were a couple.  In an interview, Future said “She’s amazing, incredible, everything that comes along with those words.”

3. His stage name is courtesy of the Dungeon Family.

His cousin was a producer of the Dungeon Family and their close connections eventually led to his nickname.  G-Rock would frequently say to Nayvadius, “You’re the future. You’re the future.”

4. He admits to finding inspiration in pop music.

Future has no qualms about making it on a Top 40s or Pop hits chart.  To him, it’s not about sticking to a genre.  He goes where the music takes him.

5. He was raised in the infamous “Zone 6″ of Atlanta.

Zone 6 was represented most recently by Gucci Mane’s mixtape The Return of Mr. Zone 6.

6. He began as a battle rapper.

Under the name Meathead of Da Connect, he began to perform.  He eventually became a member of a second-generation Dungeon Family, but the group did not garner any success.

7. He’s written lyrics and hooks for many Award winning artists.

For example, he’s responsible for one of the prominent hooks in Ludacris’ “Blueberry Yum Yum“.

8. He broke into mainstream fame with the song “Racks featuring Future”.

Penned for YC Braggadocios, the song eventually went on be a BET Hip-hop award nominated hit.

9. As a child, Future was shot.

Before following a career in music, Future was a street kid.  At the age of 14 or 15, he was shot in the right hand.  The injury resulted in his living on the streets until the age of 24.

10. He’s a fan of Shakespeare.

Though he often plays dumb, Future once said in an interview, “Words always intrigued me.  When I went to school, I would read Shakespeare and just fell in love with how he mixed his words. I started playing around and writing poems, reading poems”
