10 Fun Facts about Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has been the face of R&B since the early 2000s.  With 9 Grammys and singles that consistently top the charts, Alicia Keys is a familiar face in the music industry, but how much do you really know about the talented vocalist?


Alicia Keys attended Manhattan’s Professional Performance Arts School and studied choir.  Due to her excellent academic standing, she graduated at the age of 16.  She was accepted into Columbia University on full scholarship, but after 4 weeks left the school to pursue her music career.


Keys was born Alicia Augello Cook  to Teresa Augello, a paralegal and actress, and Craig Cook, a flight attendant.  Her parents separated when she was two, which led to her being raised by her mother who encouraged Keys to play the piano.  Along with considering herself African American, Keys is of Italian, Irish, and Scottish descent.
