10 Fun Facts about Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars is an artist that needs no introduction even though his tunes have only been on the airwaves a few years. It’s pretty safe to say he “blew up” last year, but we’ve come up with a list of 10 fun facts about Bruno Mars that you might not know…

As you may have guessed Bruno Mars isn’t the singers’ real name. Bruno was actually born in 1985 as Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu Hawaii.

If you’re an old school wrestling fan you’ve probably heard of Bruno Sammartino, and apparently Bruno’s father was a fan as well. Bruno got part of his catchy moniker from his father as dear old dad thought he resembled the famous wrestler as a child.

If you’ve ever watched Bruno Mars on stage you know the man is a true performer. It must run in the blood as his whole family is musical and his mother was a Hula dancer while his Uncle was an Elvis impersonator.

Like most stars, Bruno got started with music at an early age. He was only four years old when he began performing with his family’s band The Love Notes, and became well known for his Elvis Presley impersonations.

Everyone knew the name Bruno Mars after “Nothin’ on You” hit the radio waves, but Bruno was making music way before that. Way back in 2004 he actually signed with Motown, and produced songs with the   Smeezingtons. He worked with several notable names including Brandy, Adam Levine, Sean Kingston, and the Sugababes.

Superstars and trouble go hand in hand, and Bruno got a little taste of that in September of 2010. Bruno was popped in Vegas for possession of cocaine, and after pleading guilty to possession he had to pay a 2,000 dollar fine, 200 hours of community service, and complete a drug counseling course.

Tattoos are another thing that seemingly goes with being a star, and Bruno has quite a few of those. He rocks an anchor on one forearm, a gypsy on the other, and has “Pete’s boy” on his bicep. He didn’t leave Mom out either as he put her name on his shoulder.

A lot of celebrities have movie ties, and Bruno Mars is no different. Last year he put out a new song called “it Will Rain” for the movie Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1, but he was actually in a movie long before that. In 1992 he was in “Honeymoon in Vegas”  as Little Elvis which is quite fitting and pretty damned funny.

People have always been fascinated by how tall celebrities are, and I was a little surprised to find out Bruno comes in on the Tom Cruise side of things as he only stands 5’5”. What’s more surprising is that Tom is a whopping two inches taller than Bruno at 5’7”.

While Bruno has only been on the airwaves since 2011, he’s received a slew of nominations and wins. In the past 2 years he’s received 16 nominations and 1 win… at the Billboard awards. There are a ton of award shows and we were going to count the rest up, but got lost count before we reached the Teen Choice awards.
